Introducing Angel Map™: A New Way to Discreetly Ask for Help

We are thrilled to announce the launch of Angel Map™, the latest interactive feature in the uSafeUS® app—and one we believe can truly make a difference.

So, what exactly is Angel Map™, and why did we create it?

Many people are familiar with the idea of an “angel drink”—a discreet way to signal distress to a bartender or server by ordering a fake drink. It’s a safe and subtle way to get help when you’re feeling vulnerable or uncomfortable. At uSafeUS®, we took that concept and integrated it into our app with the Angel Drink feature. Users can show a digital drink menu to a staff member, with each option giving clear instructions—like, “please escort me to my car”, or “please call the police”.

But here’s the truth: frightening situations don’t happen only at bars and restaurants. That’s why we created Angel Map™.

The idea for Angel Map™ came after hearing the true account of a teenage girl who was followed while driving. Her older sibling had recommended downloading the uSafeUS® app after attending a uSafeUS® partner school, so the teen had it on her phone. When she sensed she was in danger, she stopped at a nearby gas station. Realizing, the person following her stopped too and got out of their vehicle, the teen went into the gas station and showed the Angel Drink menu to the clerk.

At first, the clerk was confused and said they didn’t sell alcohol. But the girl insisted he read the menu more closely. Realizing something was wrong, the clerk directed her to “look for the ingredients”—code for “help is on the way”—while pressing the emergency button to call the police. Authorities arrived quickly and were able to intervene.

Thankfully, this story has a positive ending. But it also made us realize something: people need tools to ask for help in everyday spaces—not just in nightlife settings.

That’s where Angel Map™ comes in.

With Angel Map™, users can discreetly ask for help by pretending to ask for directions. It's a simple interaction, but behind the scenes, it can trigger emergency assistance. Whether you're on a walk, shopping, driving, or anywhere public, Angel Map™ is designed to keep you one step safer.

We hope you never need to use it—but if you do, Angel Map™ is right there in your back pocket.
